Compared to my 35 hours from Spring break, it looks like I'm only going to have 20-25 this week. I did not get as many shots lined and colored either, and I was so appalled by how long the human walk cycles took to color in compared to how quickly I animated them! I also colored in the other half of the walk cycles from the 3/4 shot of the cats approaching the house, plus the entirety of the shot where the kitten is getting human interaction. I lost a little time to having to troubleshoot a couple small after effects issues as well due to a few mistakenly named files, but it was not the sort of hitch that I could lose much progress from.
It definitely feels like I should have more by now(woah I've never said that before in a production blog!), so I'm trying to consult my schedules a little more often to more effectively plot out these last few critical weeks before this thing hits the big screen. I've decided that if I can't finish the film entirely by then, I'm going to prioritize getting all the animation done in time so that the audience can at least read the story from the characters. Then I'll go back to tidy up backgrounds (and fill in those gaps) to whatever extent time (and caffeine) will allow. After FUSE, I would then go back to fully finish those backgrounds before applying to film festivals.
I've badly wanted to have detailed backgrounds for this film, to such an extent that maybe this caused me to put them off so late as I actually don't have much experience doing them. But if it's a question of having to choose between fully fleshed-out character animation--I think that for the story I'm trying to tell, it will definitely make a better impression if the characters are finished.
