I am happy to say, I got to spend so much more time with my film over the last two weeks than the previous two. Since then, I have decided to re-frame my production schedule for the rest of the semester, aiming to complete the rough character animation for an entire scene for every remaining two-week 'milestone' for class left in the semester. Ideally, my new goal is to have all rough character animation completed before winter break starts. I know realistically this may not go according to plan, considering that some scenes are longer and feature more complex animation than others. I did not end up finishing the first shot in its entirety on time, due to underestimating how long it would take to finish the kitten's jump, and even the walk cycle to some degree. But I guess my top priority now is to have something there, for every shot by the end of the semester, so that I can increase the time I have to go back and improve upon it. Who knows, maybe it won't stick and I'll need a break to paint backgrounds or something of the sort. However for the time being, this new goal seems like an effective way to break down what needs to get done, and is helping me refocus my efforts.
